Jimmie Proffitt Photo

James V. Proffitt III, MBA, CMPE, is President and Chief Operations Officer for MedAmerica Billing Services, Inc. Over the past 16+ years, Mr. Proffitt has been instrumental in re-shaping MBSI in terms of vision, re-organization, and the use of technology to improve efficiency and results for the client. "Excellence in billing requires excellence in the staff", is his motto. He believes that one of the most important keys to success is constant emphasis on staff development in basics and beyond. He is focused on positioning the company for growth and future technology advances to support the changing needs of revenue cycle management. Mr. Proffitt brings 30 years of experience in executive leadership including positions with Tenet Healthcare Systems, Catholic Healthcare West Medical Foundation, Pacific Physician Services Inc., and General Dynamics Corporation. He holds a B.A. in Finance from Cal State University and an M.B.A. from the University of Redlands. Mr. Proffitt is a member of the Healthcare Billing Management Association and holds a CMPE (Certified Medical Practice Executive) certification with the Medical Group Management Association.

Pam Carraway Photo Pam Carraway has been with MedAmerica Billing Services, Inc. for over 39 years. Ms. Carraway is a founding member of the company, serving in several capacities, and is presently the Director of Reimbursement Operations. She originally worked in 1974 with doctors at Downey Park Radiology in creating a billing service, where she served as Vice President of Physicians Medical Data Service, Inc. This company was bought out by CEP America, and has since built up to what is now MedAmerica Billing Services Inc. As head of the Reimbursement Operations, she oversees the Operations and Reimbursement Department for the company and has implemented cutting edge technology that has resulted in MBSI being the industry leader. Ms. Carraway's personal philosophy is a belief that MBSI has an obligation to the client to be ethical, honest and to do the very best possible to maximize the client's collections. She states, "It has been very exciting and dynamic working in this field. There is always something new to learn or implement, because the rules are always changing. We have a great team that works well together, and each person plays an important part in the success of this company". Ms. Carraway looks forward to new challenges and continued success within the medical billing industry.
Linda Fleming Photo

Linda Fleming is Director of Billing Operations and joined MBSI in 2001. Ms. Fleming currently oversees internal operations for the 250-member support teams; including Employee Development, Quality Assurance and Medical Billing, by maintaining daily contact with the managers and supervisors who serve client ER sites in California, Georgia, Tennessee, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, District of Columbia, Maryland, Kansas, Missouri, and Illinois. She is also an active member of the MBSI Compliance Committee. Ms. Fleming brings over 20 years of prior experience in operations in the insurance industry and customer service. She is passionate about employee development and believes billing operations are an extension of the client's practice. She is a member of the Healthcare Billing and Management Association and holds Chartered Property Casualty Underwriting (CPCU) and Associate in Management (AIM) designations.

Cherry Moore joined MedAmerica Billing Services, Inc. in March 2016 as the Director of Billing Operations. She oversees all billing operations teams and other departments, including Patient Services, Employee Development Center, Quality Assurance, and Specialty Practices.

She has a proven record of success as an education-oriented leader; utilizing on-going development of high performing teams, implementing standard operating procedures, and applying industry standards to achieve both financial and operational success. Mrs. Moore has held various executive positions during her 27 years in health care. This includes the positions of Vice President, Physician Business Services for a large national Orthopedic practice; Director, Revenue Cycle Management for a large multi-hospital system; and Director, Revenue Cycle Management for Southwestern Eye Center. During her tenure at Southwestern Eye Center, she successfully transitioned the billing process from an outsourced company to a full service in-house business office. Highlights of her career achievements over the years include her unwavering pursuit of excellence in revenue cycle management initiatives, employee development, and business office organization.

Throughout her career, she has built strong relationships with physicians, colleagues and staff that continue to shape and enhance her leadership style and management skills. Mrs. Moore received her Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration at Argosy University, and her Masters of Science in Leadership from Grand Canyon University. She will complete her Doctor of Education in Organizational Development with an Emphasis in Health Care Administration from Grand Canyon University in fall 2016. Mrs. Moore is a member of the Medical Group Management Association.

Elizabeth Lawson Photo Elizabeth Lawson is the Director of Finance for MedAmerica Billing Services, Inc. (MBSI). She was formerly the Controller for BroadLogic Network Technologies, Inc. and brings over 15 years of experience in Corporate Finance to MBSI. Ms. Lawson joined MBSI in 2005 as the Controller and was promoted to Director of Finance after three years. During her tenure at MBSI, she has been responsible for all aspects in Finance, including financial planning and strategies, internal controls, and the development and implementation of sound financial policies and procedures. Ms. Lawson received her B.S. in Accounting from Santa Clara University and is a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association.

Stephanie Montanez, PHR, SHRM-CP has served as the Director of Human Resources for MedAmerica Billing Services, Inc. (MBSI) since 2004. She came to MedAmerica with a 12 year background in Human Resource management from Collins Electric, and Qualex, Inc. (a Kodak Company).

As the Director of Human Resources, Stephanie oversees the overall development and implementation of MBSI's Human Resource strategies and various programs. As a result of her philosophies to connect with, and assist with problem solving matters between employees of all levels, Stephanie was instrumental in the facilitation of a new division for MBSI; the "Employee Development and Coaching" division. The process for development of the division ultimately culminated into a practical field guide. Under the title, "Leaders Start to Finish, A Roadmap for Developing Top Performers", and co-authored by Anne Bruce, the book was published in 2012. The Employee Development Center transitioned to a stand-alone division of the organization and is positioning the company for internal growth and opportunities for our staff.

Stephanie holds a Bachelors of Science Degree in Business Management from the University of Phoenix, as well as the Professional in Human Resource (PHR) designation and a Professional Society for Human Resource Management Certification (SHRM-CP), and is a contributing member of the Society For Human Resource Management (SHRM), along with the Northern California Human Resources Association (NCHRA).

Terrie Avila is the Senior Director of Billing Operations, having joined MedAmerica Billing Services, Inc. (MBSI) in 1999. Ms. Avila oversees medical billing for the Emergency Room and the Specialty Billing Department (Hospitalist, Skilled Nursing Facilities, Intensivist, and Wound Care sites) in California, Georgia, Tennessee, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, District of Columbia, Maryland, Kansas, Missouri, and Illinois. She also oversees the Patient Service Center and the Appeals Department. Previous roles with MBSI include Director of Coding and Compliance, and Director of Operations, overseeing both the Billing and Coding departments. She brings 20+ years of prior experience in both operations and the healthcare industry, including 11 years at CIGNA. Ms. Avila has a passion for healthcare and is dedicated to the continuing professional education in this fast-changing, challenging industry. She is a Certified Healthcare Billing Management Executive (CHBME), and is a member of the Healthcare Billing and Management Association and the American Academy of Professional Coders.

Guadalupe Carlos has been with MedAmerica Billing Services, Inc. since 1995, and serves as the Director of Application Support and Analytics. Prior to this position, she acted as the Director of Accounting for the company. Her vision is centered on providing outstanding support services for the MBSI management team, enabling all of our thought leaders to make the right decision at the right time, through the provision of applications, data, and analytics. Ms. Carlos has a Bachelor's of Arts degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, in Sociology, with an emphasis on Business Administration.

Elva Hurst is the Director of Decision Support and Development for MedAmerica Billing Services, Inc. (MBSI), and has been a leader within the organization for 25 years. Prior to her current role as the leader of a team of software developers, Ms. Hurst has held posts at MBSI as Human Resources Director, and Director of Operations. Ms. Hurst's many years of experience - not only with the company, but with the healthcare industry in general, places her in great standing to solve complex problems and identify opportunities for business process improvement. Ms. Hurst strives to implement solutions that better serve MBSI's clients by taking advantage of automation, while striking the ideal balance between human resources and technology. Ms. Hurst believes that the decision making capability of employees cannot be replaced by automation. She feels that with the strategic utilization of automation, employees can perform at a higher level as they focus on their core area of talent. Ms. Hurst holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from California State University, Stanislaus.

Eric Ho serves as the Director of Technology Operations, having joined MBSI in early 2015. With a background of over 20 years as a technology professional, Eric has held various executive positions with healthcare related companies. He currently oversees the Systems, Telecommunication, Networking, IT Security, and Service Desk teams in the IT Department. He also heads the Data Acquisition and EDI departments - supporting the company's Billing Operations, as part of Technology Operations. Mr. Ho came to MBSI from Marina Medical Billing Services, where he served as Director of Technology for 5+ years, including roles with both T-System RevCycle+ and Intermedix by way of company mergers and acquisition. He brings MedAmerica Billing Services, Inc. a unique combination of IT expertise, together with the knowledge and experience of specific challenges that face the healthcare industry today. Mr. Ho holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Information Technology from the University of Phoenix.

Emily Wang Zahn, JD, is the Director of Compliance and Contracting. She joined MBSI in January 2015 as the Director of Contract Administration and Regulatory Affairs. Her department oversees compliance for MBSI as well as payor contract management, payor dispute resolution, new contracts, and settlement negotiations. Ms. Zahn helps facilitates an enterprise-wide culture of compliance with MBSI, CEP America and MedAmerica. She has a background as a litigator with Dinsmore and Shohl, LLP, defending, amongst others, Emergency Room Physicians and handling regulatory matters. Ms. Zahn's experience also includes management of the revenue cycle operations and client service management for emergency physician groups. She served as the Vice President, Emergency Department Compliance at Intermedix Corporation, and was the Assistant General Manager and Chief Compliance Officer at RevCycle+, Inc. (formerly Marina Medical Billing Service, Inc.) before joining MBSI. Ms. Zahn received her Bachelor of Arts at Princeton University, and her Juris Doctor from the University of Louisville, Brandeis School of Law. She is a member of the American Bar Association, Health Law Section, the Emergency Department Practice Management Association, and the Medical Group Management Association.
